Election Observation Workshop – United Kingdom local elections 2026

Date: 02-07 May 2026

Location: London (United Kingdom)

Following the success of previous hands-on workshops held in Bulgaria and Portugal, we are pleased to launch, in cooperation with Transparencia Electoral, a new activity in London ahead of the upcoming United Kingdom local elections scheduled for 7 May 2026.

This programme is designed to provide participants with both a solid conceptual understanding and practical exposure to election observation. It combines an online briefing with a field-based experience, allowing participants to bridge theory and practice in a real electoral context.

An online briefing will take place on 2 May, offering participants practical and interactive insights into election observation methodology. The session will be delivered by experienced international experts and practitioners, and will cover key aspects of electoral processes, observation standards, and current challenges, including disinformation.

Following the briefing, participants will have the opportunity to engage as accredited international observers during the local elections in London. This hands-on component will provide first-hand experience in observing polling procedures, assessing compliance with electoral standards, and contributing to structured observation and reporting exercises.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:
– Theoretical framework and principles of election observation
– Differences and complementarities between international and domestic observation
– Code of conduct and ethical standards for observers
– Understanding and identifying electoral disinformation
– Overview of the UK electoral framework and local election context
– Practical techniques for observing polling stations
– Structured reporting and analysis of observation findings
